Transcending feedback into greatness

Hey bloggers, it's been a while hasn't it!
Well thanks to some helpful gamers I was able to identify and fix some very bad bugs in my game Transcendence.
That being said, Transcendence v1.2 is up and ready to download in the description of my contest page: http://contest.gamedevfort.com/submission/88#.Vc5Y0vlViko

Now while this version won't be judged as part of the contest since is was completed after the August 7th deadline, you can still play and experience the game completely free!

Don't just take my word for it, these are some comments that have been left by reviewers:
- Graphics are strange but original - I like original!
- Some small control game bugs but nothing kicked me out so all worked well
- All in all a good game and I liked the sea effects and the animation on char and trees...It was better than screens made out....

- I really like the idea that the more you use a technique, the stronger it gets!
- I also really like all the menus. Getting more information on enemies and characters is always fun, and being able to re-assign abilities to different buttons is a very nice touch.
- To be honest, I’m not a fan of the graphics. But I will say there is a lot of detail in the characters/monsters, and the visuals do convey everything that they need to. Transcendence definitely does feel like it has its own style. I do like the small touches like the slight face on the enemy trees before you disturb them, and the Conjuration Spell effect looks nice.

-The Skill Leveling System is a great gameplay mechanic. I love how you put the effort to give different effects like increased speed and reach rather than just increasing the damage a little and calling it a day.
-The variety in characters. Every party member feels and plays differently.

Your opinion could be exactly the same or it may differ, the only way to figure that out is to check out Transcendence yourself and play the game.

Well that's all for today,  Enjoy!

Hey bloggers!
TRANSCENDENCE IS READY TO DOWNLOAD
http://contest.gamedevfort.com/submission/88#.VcVLyPlVikp

I had to make some last minute changes before the contest ended so I recommend turning the volume down lower if you keep it high, but other than that the game is fully functional and ready to download. This has been an epic journey for me and I'm glad to have your support. Well what are you waiting for. Go play it now! And make sure to vote for my game.

Transcending breath into life

Hey bloggers!
Sorry for not posting for a week but I was busy programming and trying to finish on time.
I can officially say that the game is around 90% done.
I needed to take the time and figure out what to keep and what not to keep and whether or not I should try and finish the game as a whole or just make a demo version.
I decided to make the full game so I focused primarily on the important things and getting some of special features working.
Even though I have a lot done, I still have a long way to go, but rest assured I'm hoping to upload the game late Wednesday night or early Thursday Morning.

Today I tried to focus on cleaning up things including graphics even though there is still a lot of programming to do. This the new title screen for now but that also might change.

For those of you who already saw my forest level, this is an updated picture, if you look closely you might see something interesting.

One of the special features I was talking about was a small Bestiary. The picture below shows one entry.

This a sneak peak of the water environment to hold you over. Fourth environment is in progress but seeing as were close to the end date you just going to have to play the game to find out what I looks like ;)

That's the update for today, I'll post another blog post when the game is uploaded and link it to the page. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope you enjoy the game.

Transcending progress

Hello everyone, time for another update!
I can official say the game is 49% done now and should be 50% done by tonight! This good because all the extra features I wanted to add have been implemented and all that is left is to design the remaining levels, make cut scenes, and add menus. The forest levels I was working on are complete and you can view some of it here: https://youtu.be/lkogf_gofVY

Character update:
This is Ember Phixie!

The phixie clan is a clan of Phoenix and Pixie hybrids. The entire clan is somewhat immortal thanks to their Phoenix blood flowing inside them, however the phixie cannot live more than a 20 year lifespan. Once they perish they return to being a baby and lose all their memories of their previous life. Fearing the unknown, Ember wishes to achieve transcendence and live solely as a Pixie.

Honestly I was expecting to have a lot more done by now but I'll keep you up to date with my progress with my next post on Monday!

Transcending nature into being

Hey there, thanks again for taking the time to read my posts
I really appreciate it. This is another short one today, but I guarantee Friday's post will be thrilling
with another gameplay sneak peak video.

In other news....

2 Weeks have gone by and I'd have to say I;m about 40% done with the game.
I'm going to have to really pick up the pace if I want to finish it by August 7th. All of the main character's actions and abilities have been full fleshed out and implemented. 1 enemy and 1 boss have been fully designed and implemented. Thankfully, the way I wrote the code, I'll be able to re-use a lot of the code for future enemies and bosses. As I already stated  in earlier posts, I did all my character artwork the first week of the contest so all I need to do is program the enemies. I have finished the mountain area and have started working on the forest area.

Well, as I said, this is just a short one for today, keep up to date and look for my next post Friday.

Oh and tell me what you think of this music for the forest area.

Transcending sparks into flame.

Hey bloggers, it's that time again!

I must admit it was a slow weekend for me but I finally was able to produce a fully functioning AI working. I also added some more visual detail to the background and skill slots. All of the visuals is subject to change so don't be surprised if what you see here is different from when you play the game.  Minor bugs here and there still need to be fixed but the progress of the game is going well. As some of you saw in my fourth blog post, skills have an upgrade system in which they either grow in size, strength, range, or length.  Three screenshots below show off that growth for those of you who missed the video.

Fire 1

Fire 2

Fire 3

In addition to the growth of the skills enemies have health, can choose to attack if they want and can be hurt by the player's attack. Enemy programing is still basic in nature as of right now but by the time the game is finished I hope to make a more advanced AI.

Enemy hurt by fire

A little more on Zyion......

So by now I'm sure you all have plenty of ideas of what Zyion is, and I'm here to tell you straight that Zyion is a hybrid of a Dragon and a Witch. The Drix tribe in which Zyion belongs to is comprised of several dragon hybrid species each with their own unique abilities and weaknesses. This unity between Dragons and non-Dragons was formed due to Dragons being hunted down to the brink of extinction. In order to help keep the Dragon bloodline alive the Drix are forced to go the Kytera mountains for Transcendence upon the age of 18 and transcend into a pure Dragon. However, it is the Drix's choice as to which creature to Transcend into but those who do not choose to become a dragon are highly looked down upon. Zyion himself is torn upon which path he should take into Transcendence and hopes that by the end of his journey he can become who he should become and not what people would like him to become.

Look out for my next post on Wednesday and goodnight!

Transcending growth through experience

Hey bloggers!
Sorry for the late post, things just did not go as planned today.
Regardless, I promised a gameplay video, so here is a gameplay video showing off one of the ways I'm implementing the theme of growth in my game.

Comment down below if you think you know what Zyion is a hybrid of.
Sorry thats all for today.
